On June 2010, Mongolian airline company Eznis Airways launched the new scheduled flight from Mongolian capital Ulan-Bator to Ulan-Ude city east of Baikal Lake. With only two international flights to China Eznis Airways served mostly domestic routes within Mongolia. This service to Russia will become their second international destination. Air company will put into service Swedish-made aircraft Saab-340 with the maximum capacity of 34 passengers.

The flight is scheduled on Tuesdays and Saturdays. It takes 1 hour 30 minutes to reach Ulan-Ude from Mongolian capital. Airfare for one-way trip starts at USD150 which is just a little over than 2-nd class train tickets. Many business travelers as well as tourists who are in short of time may choose this flight as a much faster option to almost a full day train trip.

The flight to Ulan-Bator has been long awaited by the travel-trade professionals from Baikal region. It will play an important role in further development of transport infrastructure between these two popular destinations on Trans-Siberian route.
