Baikal Irkutsk Trans Siberian

Listvyanka Settlement

Listvyanka settlement is a small town on the southern shore of Lake Baikal, about 68 km (43 mi) from Irkutsk. Though, the number of local inhabitants is not more than 1.7 thousand people, Listvyanka meets about half a million visitors every summer. Such popularity is easily explained: there are very few good access roads to the lake and this small settlement can boast of comfortable hotels and tourist entertainments.

One can reach it taking a public bus from Irkutsk or a private car that in an hour will bring to a lovely scenic place. Here you will find small wooden houses hidden in valleys, cozy hotels, cafes and restaurants, little shops, fish and souvenir markets that work all year round under the open air and of course broad expanses of lake's waters – blue, grey or greenish depending on season and the weather.

Staying in Listvanka may also be educative since there is Baikal Limnological museum, once a research institute, a picture gallery exhibiting the works of local painters, a small zoo and a nerpinarum. A small wooden Nikolskaya church with a flowering garden around it receives believers. Deeper in the same valley tourists enjoy horse riding, dog-sledding and snowmobiling. Needless to say how pleasant it can be to walk along the shore of the lake in the evening and visit one of the post beautiful places on southern Baikal – Chersky peak.

Do not miss the opportunity to see the lake following the shortest highway and appreciate all possible activities that Listvyanka settlement can offer!
